PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

This STANDARD MARTIN HOUSE is a beautiful, 12 room CEDAR house designed specifically to house the purple martin. It comes FULLY ASSEMBLED and can be mounted to a sturdy round pole system or a 4x4 post system.  The entrance holes are the required 2" diameter and the individual compartments are approx. 6”x 6”.  The house is made of hearty cedar and assembled using all 3 fasteners….NAIILS, EXTERIOR GLUE, & SCREWS.  Mother Nature can be tough on outdoor items.  Using all 3 fasteners helps ensure that your item will hold together and remain strong.

THIS MARTIN HOUSE IS RUGGED AND HOLDS UP WELL AGAINST THE WEATHER. The thick walls and sealed corners keep the baby birds and mother warm and dry. To clean out nests, simply remove a couple screws and the roof lifts off in one piece. Once the roof is removed, there is a top lid that comes off and the inner divider system pulls out so that the nests can be removed and interior brushed clean. A "Care and Maintenance" flier is included as well as information on "Making and Installing your own 4x4 post system".

Also, if you wanted to use this house to accommodate birds other than martins and want a different hole size (ie: 1 1/2 " , etc, ) we would be happy to do it for you FREE of charge. Just let us know upon payment.

PROCESSING & SHIPPING TIME:

What’s Processing Time?  When a customer orders from us, we are currently working on prior orders. Since we make the items we sell (not a buy/ship seller), our days consist of building product, shipping, & email communications. These activities easily fill up a day and we need processing time to keep everything in balance and operating smoothly.  It's not your order that requires the 2 weeks but the orders prior to yours that are needing their processing.  Also know that we always try to move orders through for quicker arrival times.  However, we will not rush through an order for the sake of getting to the next one.  We want each customer to receive the quality item that they're expecting.  Thank you!

ABOUT US:

The Ark Workshop has been in business since 1992 …. Over 20 years.  We focus our efforts on designing and manufacturing "unique designs for the outdoors".   When we first started, we sold products in popular retail chains in the United States.  Our products have been sold in stores such as ACE  HARDWAREs, MEIJERs, HWI  DO-IT CENTERs, popular GROCERY  STOREs, GIFTS SHOPs, & POPULAR  TRADE & CRAFT  SHOWs.   We just want you to know that these products are of store quality and have passed the stringent standards of retailers!  We're offering close-to-wholesale pricing.  All items come with informative product tags and information that will help you fully enjoy your purchase.  If you require more information, just email us and we'll be happy to answer your questions.

The Ark Workshop is a family owned business.  We initially were working in corporate healthcare but wanted a career that would enable us to spend more time as a family.  Taking a leap-of-faith,  we left our secure jobs and tried to find such a profession.   In between interviews, we kept busy woodworking and making unique items for our lawn and garden. Then one day, a passing motorist noticed one of our designs and stopped to see if we would be willing to make one for her. We agreed and, before long, we started getting a few more orders from others. After a while, we began interviewing less and building more.  Before we knew it, we had a couple weeks of orders and we started to consider the possibility of pursuing this as our occupation.  Through prayer and hard work, we started to grow this business and we call it THE ARK WORKSHOP  (after Noah and The Ark).  We give all thanks to God for allowing us to pursue this dream.  GIVE US A TRY so we can show you that we work hard to earn your business!

OPTIONAL FEATURES:  At the bottom of this page will be a way to choose options for your house.  When selecting an option below, simply check-mark the option and then type "yes" or "y" or "1" in the drop down box.  The option & amount will be added.  You can add/remove options as you wish.

BASEPLATE: for $15 we will include a baseplate for the underside of your house.  It easily attaches to the house and makes mounting to a 4x4 post system very easy.  All hardware and instructions are included.

GROUND SOCKET: for $39 we will include a GROUND SOCKET SYSTEM.  Meausures 3.5"deep x 6.5"across x 31"tall.  All included:  ground socket, carriage bolts, washers/nuts, and detailed instructions with illustrations.  First, birdhouse pole systems can either be metal pole-flag pole type systems with some that telescope so that you can bring the house down closer to you for birdhouse maintenance.  These works well for lighter aluminum or tin houses.  However, due to the size of our housing, we prefer using a wooden 4x4 system because it can hold more weight atop the post.  Winds can be very strong up at birdhouse level and having a post system that can withstand those winds is very important.  Also, some pipe-pole systems might start developing a gradual lean over time due to constant swaying during high winds.  The wood post system helps to avoid all that.  A wood post stands strong like a tree while also adding to the beauty of your yard.  Many people add a trellis to it, get vines growing up, etc.  It is just another way to add a decorative focal point to your yard and garden.

The 4x4 post system that we have used over the last 20 years consists of 2 parts:
1:  a ground socket system and 2: a 4x4x8' post.  The ground socket is made of pressure treated wood and is cemented into the ground.  It takes approximately 3 days for the cement to properly dry &* cure.  Then, an 8' post (or longer if you prefer)slides down into the ground socket.  The 8' post will need to have a couple of holes drilled through the bottom part of the post so that 2 long bolts can slide through the holes of the ground socket, through the 4x4, and then out the other side of the ground socket.  Washers and nuts are provided so that you can tighten and squeeze the entire system together making it one.  When you need to clean out your birdhouse, you simply remove one of the bolts and the wooden pole will swivel/pivot on the remaining bolt.  Since the bolts are tightened well, the wooden post does not comes swooping down to the ground.  You have to apply a little effort and pull the post toward you and ease it down at your pace.  It's a great feature and makes mounting a house (and getting it down) very convenient.  Refer to picture for clarification.

Over the years, we have set up many of these post systems for our neighboring customers.  We've dug many holes, poured alot of cement, and made sure that the pole systems were level and straight.  We want to help you and provide you with all the knowledge we've gained through these experiences.  Although we cannot ship the long 4x4x8' portion of the system, we are making the GROUND SOCKET available for purchase.  The GROUND SOCKET is the most complicated part of the system and it will save you time and money by purchasing it here.  At the time this was written, pine and fir posts cost anywhere from $10-15.  It is much more cost effective for you to purchase the long post at your lumber yard versus us trying to ship it through a carrier.  These posts can be transported in a medium size vehicle ..... we've done it.  8' posts can fit either diagonally in a vehicle or also along the passenger door line with some of the post end sticking out of the front window.  Just be sure to attach a red flag to the post end so that other drivers can see it.  Those flags are provided free at most lumber yards.

THE GROUND SOCKET:  All sockets are made of pressure treated wood for underground use.  All bolts/nuts/washers are provided.  Detailed instructions with illustrations are also provided.  These instructions will share with you how deep to dig the hole, the amount of cement & water needed, tips on mixing cement, how to make sure the system dries level and straight, and all the info we can share to make the process easy.  Bottom line:  In purchasing this ground socket, all that remains is for you to purchase a 4x4 post and a couple bags of cement at your local lumber yard.   Follow our detailed instructions and you will have a strong post system that will never blow over and which will last forever.

PERCHING/LANDING TOWER: for $15 we will include a perch/landing tower.  Martins like to perch high and be albe to see from all angles.  A tower helps with that.  It also serves the purpose for landing.  Martins are very aerial acrobatic birds and having a landing area will be very helpful to them.  It also is a great aid when trying to first get martins.  It encourages them to land and inspect the housing you are offering them.  Easily attaches to the top of an Arkworkshop house.  Instructions included.

CEDAR SEAL: for $29 we will seal the entire outside and underside of the house (the interior is not sealed and is kept natural). Cedar is one of the best woods to use for outdoor items. It is a wood that can expand and contract with warm and cold weather. It is a great insulator. After a period of time, cedar will begin to lighten to a silvery gray. However, if you want to keep cedar looking its TAN color longer, then a sealant is recommended. We use a product called CLEAR WOOD FINISH. It is low odor, water soluble, and penetrates deep into the pours of the cedar.......providing a clear coat of protection and preserving the tan color.
